How to transform and integrate road infrastructures in the Barcelona metropolitan region?

How to transform and integrate road infrastructures in the Barcelona metropolitan region?

BUUR Part of Sweco has resulted finalist of a prestigious international competition with the following themes:

  • What’s the future of road infrastructures?
  • How can we aim at downgrading and integrating infrastructural roads and junctions?
  • How can we reduce cars into the city and promote multimodal nodes at the entrances of the city?

The proposal focused on developing a new metropolitan centrality around one of the most dense traffic junctions of Catalonia, via a green ring and soft infrastructure uniting the different municipalities around the node. Other similar projects that build up on this one are ‘Over de Ring’ in Antwerp, the R0 redevelopment in Brussels, the ‘Magistralen’ project in Hamburg or the vision on the A6 in Bern.

This initiative is organized by the Area Metropolitana de Barcelona and framed in the new mobility policy of the ongoing new Metropolitan Plan of Barcelona. For more information on the competition results and procedure click here  and here.
